This park spans 1,445 acres along the shores of scenic Lake Martin, which is a 41,000-acre clear-water reservoir perfect for fishing, swimming and boating. Park facilities include the largest state-operated campground in the United States with 626 sites, many of which are waterfront sites allowing campers to fish, swim and boat right out their back door. Other facilities include a marina, campstore, fishing pier, hiking trails, playground and picnic areas with tables, grills and shelters. Ten camping cabins are currently under construction at Wind Creek State Park, three of which are now open to the public.

Experience the thrill of Rickwood's miracle mile of underground caverns! The 260 million-year-old limestone formations, blind cave fish and underground pool are just a few of the natural wonders exhibited in the colorful cavern. The park features an Olympic-sized swimming pool and snack bar, picnic area, large and small picnic shelter, hiking trails, playground,�campground and gift shop.

Rickwood Caverns is a recognized member of the National Caves Association, and offers more than a mile of living geology. The caverns themselves were water-formed during the Mississippian period over 260 million years ago. Rickwood Caverns still contains active "living formations," as mineral-laden water droplets build colorful structures and flowstones. At Rickwood Caverns, the secrets of the earth actually unfold before your eyes!

Rickwood Cave reveals that it was carved from an ocean bed - shell fragments and fossils of marine life are clearly visible along the cavern ceiling and walls. Many curiosities are featured on guided tours of the "miracle mile" at Rickwood Caverns State Park.

Operating Hours:
The park generally closes one hour before dark. For registered camping and cabin guests, the front gate is open 24 hours a day. After hours registration is available at the Front Entrance Gate for Cabin and Camping Guests until 9:00 p.m.

The Wildlife Center: Located in Oak Mountain State Park, it is the largest wildlife rehabilitation center in Alabama and cares for over 2,000 injured and orphaned wild creatures each year. Visitors may view the rehabilitation process through one-way glass and learn about native species.

Tree-top Nature Trail

The Treetop Nature Trail offers close-up views of unreleasable hawks and owls in natural habitat enclosures from an elevated walkway in the woods. Open every day, it is handicapped accessible.

Monte Sano, Spanish for “Mountain of Health,” rises more than 1,600 feet above sea level. The mountain has attracted visitors since the mid 1820’s with the establishment of the town of Viduta, a derivative of the Spanish word “Vida,” meaning life. Viduta was home to a sanatorium and a hotel resort, Hotel Monte Sano, which opened its doors on June 1, 1887 and closed in the early 1900’s due to a declining economy.

With the developments of the CCC in the 1930’s came 11 stone cabins, which are still used today, , picnic area and pavilions, and a stone lodge, which was destroyed by fire in 1947. February 2004 marked the completion of the reconstruction of the Monte Sano Lodge. Today all of these features are still in use and include the addition of three new cabins, one new pavilion and a campground with 89 improved camping sites.

The park offers over 20 miles of hiking trails so you may get back in the woods to enjoy the serenity of the mountain. We also have over 14 miles of challenging bike trails.

This 1,327-acre park is situated in the wetlands of Mobile Bay and is a day-use picnicking and scenic park with modern camping for overnight visitors. A boat ramp and fishing pier will appeal to every fisherman. A self-guided walk on two nature trails includes a boardwalk that gives you a nice view of the Mobile Delta.

The picnic area, boardwalk and pier are now open.

The camping area is now back open with 12 sites.

Lake Lurleen State Park is named after Alabama’s only female governor. Lurleen Wallace, the wife of former Governor George C. Wallace, was a native of Tuscaloosa County. As governor she was instrumental in funding a major renovation project of Alabama State Parks.

Lake Lurleen State Park is located 9 miles Northwest of the cities of Tuscaloosa and Northport, Alabama and is 14 miles from the campus of the University of Alabama, Home of the “Crimson Tide”

1,625-acre park is a scenic lakeside retreat set on the banks of a 250-acre lake. The park facilities include a modern campground, activity building, picnic area, play area, pavilions, beach with bathhouse, fishing piers, boat rentals and boat-launch areas.

For those who like to explore and take in the local sights and culture, the cities of Northport and Tuscaloosa both offer unique experiences. No trip would be complete without a visit to the University of Alabama campus and the Paul “Bear’ Bryant Museum and Alabama’s Museum of Natural History. There is also the renown Kentuck Art Festival held in Northport, which attracts many artists and craftsmen from the Southeast.
